The affiliate programme of SMI aims to connect professionals and organisations in a multidisciplinary perspective around Surfing & Health ranging from Surf Coaching / Performance, Surf Industry, Lifeguarding, broad spectrum of Medical & Paramedical sciences and sports & environmental science.
Surfing Medicine International fosters the efforts of prevention and reduction of injury and disease in the global surf & coastal population. The organisation is connected worldwide with Surf Associations, researchers and academic centres, to enable exchange of knowledge and standards.
Becoming an affiliate offers a way of advancing you and/or your organisation to become a leader and ambassador in your community on Surfing & Health via a range of tools.

Our oceans, our health.
Surfing Medicine International is proud to be contributing to the Plastic Health Coalition. Working in collaboration with scientists and activists, Plastic Soup Foundation, VU Amsterdam and other organisations from all over the world, we are striving to gather and spread evidence about the health effects as a result of (micro)plastic pollution in the oceans.
On October 3th in 2019, the very first Plastic Health Summit took place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. During this event scientists, companies, health professionals and many other people came togehter to exchange about new insights about the human health effects from microplastics. New collaborations and good discussions were the result. We are looking forward to the next summit in 2021 to spread the new knowledge and ideas.
